Music Journey: Grew up listening to ’60s rock & roll and ’80s pop (skipped the ’70s for unknown reasons). Until one fateful day in 1998 when he heard The Offspring on the radio for the first time. The distorted guitar sound hit him so hard he still hasn’t recovered. Picked up his dad’s old acoustic guitar at 13 and quickly transitioned to electric. Over the years added bass guitar to the mix, and recently started learning drums. Played in the local punk scene in Tel Aviv and in a talent show house band, until moving to SoCal.

The Backstory: Raised on ’60s rock and ’80s pop, he completely skipped the 1970s for reasons scientists still cannot explain. That all changed in 1998 when The Offspring blasted through his radio. The face-melting distortion hit him so hard, he still hasn’t fully recovered.
At 13, he hijacked his dad’s acoustic guitar, realized it wasn’t loud enough, and went electric. He later added bass to his arsenal and recently picked up the drums. Honestly, if the rest of the band gets stuck in traffic on your wedding day, this guy can probably play the whole gig solo.
He cut his teeth in the underground punk scene of Tel Aviv and anchored a talent show house band before bringing his high-energy strings to Southern California.

Music Journey: After starting on clarinet in Jr. High I moved onto alto & baritone sax in HS jazz ensemble. I picked up my first guitar in senior year high school and formed a band playing mostly Stones & Ramones covers.
College, marriage, and kids put guitar on the back burner for a while, but the ’90s brought a new wave of inspiration—STP, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Foo Fighters. Moved to South OC, bought another guitar, sharpened my chops, conquered some stage fright through blues jams, and eventually found my way through a few bands & still with Smack Dab circa 2023; finally I’m absolutely stoked to be making some noise with the Flannels.

Music Journey: He started his musical journey on the junior high clarinet before moving to the high school jazz sax. But the real trouble started senior year when he picked up a guitar and formed a band fueled entirely by The Rolling Stones and The Ramones.
College, marriage, and kids naturally put the guitar on the back burner for a minute. But you can’t lock up rock and roll forever. The 1990s hit, and with it came a massive wave of inspiration courtesy of Nirvana, Soundgarden, and the Foo Fighters.
He moved to South Orange County, bought a fresh guitar, and absolutely conquered his stage fright by shredding at local blues jams. After rocking out with a few local projects, he’s now officially bringing the thunder to The Flannels.

Music Journey: Josh got his start around the 3rd grade from beating pots and pans in the kitchen while his dad cranked Phil Collins Live. His first music teacher, Dan Ward, had the patience of a saint. After playing concert band and marching band through Junior High, he was one of the founding members of the Crimson Express Marching band in high school and played tenors (aka quads). He was introduced to Drum Corps International by his instructors and fell in love with the precision. By this time, he wanted to become versatile and started learning how to play the drum kit. His first rock band was “The Screaming Julys”. His hunger sometimes exceeded his talent when he wanted to play “Drum Machine” in Pep band and embarrassed himself. This only pushed him to become a better drummer. As an incoming Freshman at Eastern Illinois University, he prepared all summer and landed the Section Leader position in the EIU drumline and Funk Factory….SUP! Being a drummer for “The Night Putters” and a Club DJ kept him busy. After college, he moved to Chicago and joined “Double Helix” as their drummer. Years later, he moved to California and has played with Vorstellen Ensemble, Generation of Sound, Hired Gun Trio, The ROQQ Show and now The Flannels!

Music Journey: Josh launched his musical career in the third grade, aggressively destroying his mother’s pots and pans while his dad cranked Phil Collins Live. Shoutout to his first music teacher, who reportedly possessed the patience of an actual saint.
He marched his way through junior high and high school, founding the Crimson Express Marching Band and falling in love with the laser-like precision of Drum Corps International. He transitioned to the full drum kit, survived an embarrassing pep band incident involving a song called “Drum Machine,” and used that exact trauma to fuel his rise to Section Leader for Eastern Illinois University’s drumline and Funk Factory. From playing college gigs with “The Night Putters” and working as a club DJ, he graduated to the Chicago rock scene with “Double Helix.” He eventually brought his sticks out west to California, tearing up the stage with a massive roster of bands before landing right where he belongs—anchoring the rhythm section for The Flannels.

Musical journey: In 5th grade, Evan lied about knowing how to play drums so that he could join a band that only needed a drummer. Thankfully, his brother was a drummer, and helped get the wheels turning. First setlist: smells like teen spirit. Grew up playing a mixture of technical and prog metal, Pink Floyd, Phish, and Genesis. To balance out the lack of tonality from drums, his high school best friend brought Evan a bass from the pawn shop. Transitioned to punk, funk, big-band jazz, and synth-pop indie in various Chicago communities. After the Pocket Mirror album launched, Evan joined Bay Area supergroup Litty DeBungus: laying down funk and party rock hits for NorCal communities from Santa Cruz to Nevada City. Now it’s time to get back to SoCal roots: relive, revive, and rejoice in the 90s alt grunge that birthed this baby.
